If you are freelancing as a creative, finances can be incredibly difficult to arrange. What am I worth? How do I ask for money instead of mere exposure? When you feel disposable in an ocean of talent, the easiest way seems to give in and accept low offers. That is exactly why the new service @fypm.vip was launched: to give the power back to the creator.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Founders @msyoungprofessional (ex-model) and @isha.mehra teamed up with an ex-Facebook data scientist to build an app that brings transparency to the influencer industry. Their pillars: independent, transparent and paid (!).
The Glassdoor for creators is a platform where influencers can anonymously review brands they’ve worked with, search crowdsourced compensation data and make it easier to figure out how much to charge for sponsored posts.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are doing freelancing gigs (on the side or full-time), go check it out!

A vegan Dutch initiative shook up the health media last fall. The so-called “Schijf for life” (second slide) provides the Netherlands with nutritional advice that is in line with climate, environmental and health goals.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Its 3 purposes are:
🥦provide people with information about adequate nutrition
🥭maximize the health benefits of nutrition
🍆to help mitigate climate change and restore biodiversity
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is an update on the conventional “Schijf van Vijf” from Dutch Nutrition Center (dates to ’53) that fits the needs of a new generation of healthy eaters. It looks a lot like the English Eatwell Plate: the optimal human diet is explained as a recommended distribution of the total daily amount of nutrition to be consumed among 5 food sections.💡
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Modern discussions about health brought veganism into the picture and with this new initiative, a clear statement is being made. The key advice is to make veggies and fruits over 50% of your daily intake. Other important nutritional elements are whole grains and pseudo grains, Water with a capital W (±2L) and different types of legumes and soy products rather than processed meat substitutes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For the full overview and specific amounts, take a look at
www.schijfforlife.nl/
(non-Dutchies: use Google Translate)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Opinions about “the perfect diet” change over time and it is oke not to be on the same page. However, it is good to keep researching and discussing. And we get there thanks to bold individuals and organizations that bring bound breaking new ideas into the media. We are happy to see them take a stance!🔈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Note: this advice is not shared by the national Nutrition Center. It stems from a voluntary get-together by different, well-informed key players in the vegan scene in the Netherlands that are trying to reform the food industry through research and information.

The Model's Health Pledge exists 5 years! We celebrated this beautiful milestone with a small event in Amsterdam last Friday. We looked back on what has happened since we started The Pledge in 2016 and covered the ’21 annual report (an elaborate post about this will follow early December).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We also welcomed @tulpenfonds as our new network partner! Only 2 in 10 self-employed persons is insured against work disability. 41% of all self-employed people have no savings or insurance in case something goes wrong. They can get into serious trouble. ⚠️ Tulpenfonds wants to change this and therefore offers the self-employed a suitable safety net that he or she can rely on when one is no longer able to work. 🌷
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’re so happy to have them aboard. The financial part is interrelated to mental health in the fashion industry.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We also held in-depth discussions and asked some key questions such as:
- What is going on in the industry?⚠️
- What can TMHP help you with?🩹
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Feel free to let us know your take on them by commenting below.
We want this platform to be inclusive. Your voices are being heard.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For over 5 years we’ve been advocating mental health for all kind of fashion creatives. Thank you for your support in making this happen.❣️

Not so long ago, walking for Victoria’s Secret was the dream of numerous models. But body positivity, gender equality and combatting racism were not on VS’ agenda for too long, almost leading to their own defeat. Luckily, the brand is working hard now to come back better. A short walk down memory lane of the world’s biggest lingerie company.⏳
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
VS was not always for women. Business man Roy Raymond was ashamed of buying underwear for hiss wife in public warehouses in San Fransisco. So he started his own private store. The first VS store was boudoir-ish, referring back to Victorian (!) era dressing rooms for women.👑
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When Lex Wexner joined, it became less about what men wanted to see and more about what women wanted to wear. In the ’97 collection, models were called “angels” for the first time: they were the epitome of strong, beautiful women. Heidi and Gisele became Iconics and many others were paid millions. The first of many (expensive) shows was streamed for the first time in ’99. VS became an enormous corporation with stores all over the world🎥👙
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By 2016 the share price began to fall. Me Too came, oversexualised brands had difficulties. Edward Razek (entered VS in the '80s) said something incredibly tactless: that transgender models shouldn’t be in the show😫. The next show didn’t go on for the first time. In 2019 Ed resigned. More scandals came out, about sexual harassment and racism. Covid hit, market shares for lingerie brands dropped, 200+ VS stores closed down. Wexner stepped down in 2020. What was once an empire, had burnt to the ground.🧨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The brand has now started to reinvent itself, giving stores a drastic make-over, hiring new design teams and presenting their new ideal:💪🏾
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“creating an inclusive environment to celebrate uplift and champion all women”💭
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Models, Creatives, Consumers: Keep shouting when it isn’t right! It may catalyze serious change. 🏆
